Criminal Injuries Compensation
Being a victim of a crime is a distressing experience, especially when that crime results in injury. If you’ve suffered physical or psychological harm at the hands of a criminal, then you could be entitled to criminal injuries compensation. Victims can claim compensation from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA) – the government body that’s been set up to help innocent victims of violent crime.
At Fletchers Serious Injury, our legal experts have been successfully handling criminal injury claims for our customers for many years, so we’ve built a high level of expertise in this specialised legal field. Our dedicated criminal injury solicitors have over 30 years’ experience in dealing with compensation claims including criminal injury, so you can rest assured that we will bring the best legal minds to your case.
What is a criminal injury compensation claim?
If you are an innocent victim who has suffered injuries as a result of a violent crime, we can help you claim compensation from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA).
The CICA pays out criminal injury claims based on the severity of any injuries that the victim might have received at the hands of a criminal. Some people who have suffered a criminal injury can also use CICA to claim for loss of earnings and other special expenses.
As a government body, the CICA requires certain rules and procedures to be followed during criminal injury compensation claims – our legal teams are skilled at navigating these legal waters. Once you’ve started your claim with us, our dedicated criminal injury solicitors will guide you through every step of the claims process to help you secure the compensation you deserve.
Different types of criminal injury compensation claims
As well as the compensation for the injury itself, our serious injury solicitors can advise you on the financial losses that have arisen from your injury, for example, if you have been off work as a direct result of the injury.
Victims of violent crimes could be entitled to claim compensation for:
- Loss of earnings
- Psychological suffering
- Physical pain and suffering
- Costs for rehabilitation and ongoing support
- Trauma caused by the perpetrator never being identified, convicted or caught
If you’ve suffered an injury as a result of a violent crime, our specialist solicitors can help you get your life back on track. Each legal advisor at Fletchers Serious Injury is experienced in handling traumatic cases and understands the distress and devastation that can be caused by these events.
Is there a time limit on making a criminal injury compensation claim?
Applications need to be made within two years of the crime taking place, although CICA do make some exceptions including for clients under 18.
The crime needs to have been reported to the police in order for your claim to be successful.
Whilst victims can make a criminal injury claim themselves online, an experienced legal advisor can help take the stress out of the claims process. Fletchers Serious Injury can assist on a no win, no fee basis to assess your case and make sure your compensation claim covers all the losses that you suffered, from physical to psychological and financial.
