After obtaining detailed evidence from the police, as well as evidence from an accident reconstruction expert, it became apparent that as Sam was in the process of overtaking a car on his motorcycle, the car turned right into a side road – across Sam’s path.
Sam sustained numerous serious injuries from the collision; the most significant of these were the compound fracture to his left leg, above and below the knee. He underwent many emergency procedures on his knee, which concluded in a below the knee amputation due to infection and restriction in blood supply.
Louise Riley, Sam’s solicitor, remarked, “Sam is very outgoing – I was massively impressed by his attitude. He remained courageous throughout his rehabilitation and saw nothing as impossible. After getting his first prosthesis in March 2014, he returned to snowboarding and surfing (albeit in a limited capacity) and was back to work as a sheet metal worker on a part time basis by the end of July 2014. This is absolutely remarkable progress and is a testament to Sam’s strength of character.” Fletchers Solicitors settled Sam’s case in March 2014 for 1.25 million.
Sam was absolutely delighted with the settlement and said of his case:
I think being young and fit really helped with the process. I rate PACE prosthetics very highly, thanks to them I am able to do most of the things that I loved before my accident. I recently had the benefit of a trial with a BiOM prosthetic foot; this is a new type of prosthetic technology, which uses a battery to replace the calf muscle. It has been an absolute pleasure to deal with Louise and Kirsty at Fletchers Solicitors – thank you so much for everything!
Since his accident, Sam has put an offer in on a four-bedroom dormer bungalow and has recently enjoyed a well-deserved holiday in Tenerife.
