Mark Crockett’s Story

22nd May 2015

Mark spent some time in hospital and was advised that his elbow had been fractured in approximately 7 places, and his humerus was fractured into a state quoted by the surgeons as ‘cornflakes’. He was informed that the injuries sustained to his arm were so severe that were was a possibility he could lose it completely. He underwent various operations to correct his fractures. Understandably, his life and his family’s lives were turned upside down as he struggled to come to terms with what had happened to him.

Mark has slowly started to rebuild his life by now returning to work at a brewery, somewhere where he has been working since the age of 17. Whilst he continues to suffer from various symptoms from his injuries, he is able to again enjoy being a father, going on holidays and spending time with his family and friends.

He has even recently been to Holland to watch the ‘World Superbikes’ in Assen.

There is no doubt in my mind that I have suffered horrific injuries as a result of the accident and I will never be the same again. Eye witnesses have commented that I was lucky to survive the impact of the accident never mind all the surgery.

The accident has put an incredible amount of strain on my family and me. The accident not only changed my outlook on life; it has changed my lifestyle and my home and work life. It has also changed my physical and psychological personality.

I will always remember the day of the accident, the accident itself, my time in hospital, the pain and how my family reacted to the accident and how they feel now. These things will always be somewhere in the back of my mind because my life and my family’s life will never be the same again.

Since my motorcycle accident, Louise and Katelyn have helped me through some tough times. Their guidance through the process has been second to none and my appreciation towards them is unfounded. I have been able to watch my favourite pastime as I do every year, but this time, not on my bike. I have nothing but praise for Louise and Katelyn and Fletchers as a whole.
